Count your Blessings

"count your many blessings name them one by one, count your blessing see what God has done" I had a super evening courtesy of cancer care, Peggy Penner spoke of her faith in God and how he helped her overcome the loss of her husband in an accident, and how the cummunity, church & friends all chipped in to help her raise her small children and be able to move on, a very determined woman who chose to take life on Counting her Blessings instead of being a bitter, angry woman, a truely remarkable story. We all have choices to make of how we want to deal with trials in our lives, if we choose to be miserable now, we'll more than apt to be miserable 30 years from now, if we choose to be positive and counting our blessings daily, we are more than apt to be an upbeat, positive person 30 years from now. I choose to be positive!!

If anyone would like to go they are having another session in Oakville on the 20th. 7:00 as well, i'd be happy to go again and take a crew, just let me know.
First part of the session was talking about diets and cancer, facts vs myths, i am so much wiser today lol!! and to think i ate all that horrid asparagas for nothing, well not nothing, just to stay healthy, ok, ok. Emails we receive on cancer, weather its on Asparagus, John Hopkins, fruits (eating them first), these are ALL Hoax emails and not to be followed, whew....

well anyway i'll give you a run down of the evening concerning diet myths and facts.
*is it fact or myth that sugar speeds up the growth of cancer cells? fact is sugar does increase cancer cells, but, this is where it gets interesting, it increases all the rest of your cells at the same speed as your cancer cells. All cells use blood sugar for energy, sugar does not speed up the growth of tumors. In turn, removing sugar from a person's diet does not slow cancer growth either. but it is wise to eat sugars in moderation. One thing i learned from this is in people who think they will go compeletely sugar free, the body needs sugar for cells to grow, and by starving your cells of sugar the body then needs to find it in other sources in your body, if you go completely sugar free long enough your body starts taking sugars from your muscles, so eventually you are left with skin and bones, not a good thing.
** Eating organic foods will reduce the risk of getting cancer?? Myth or Fact??
it is a myth, a review of 50 studies has been done and there is NO difference in nutritional content of organic foods vs. conventionally gorwn foods. The studies also showed that the trace amounts of pesticides on foods have no link to cancers.
*** Cancer prevention guidelines suggest limiting red meat intake?? fact or myth??
this acutally is a fact, they suggest eating 2 or 3 servings of red meat the size of your palm in a week. Red meat is still recommended, but has been shown too much can cause rectal and or colon cancer
**** Asparagus cures cancer?? myth or fact?? well if you read the first part of my email you now already know it is a myth, it does not have any more curing powers than any other fruit or veggie.
***** Taking dietary supplements will help protect against cancer?? fact or myth?? this also is a myth, supplements cannot mimic the protective benefits of eating whole foods, it is good to take supplements if your not eating a well balanced diet, but if taken too much can be harmfull - speaking of vitamins she told us that taking high dosages of vitamin A did not help with cancer they actually in studies done on people were said to promote cancer growth, now i found this incredibly interesting as when i did research on a trip to Mexico for healing this is what they would intraveniously inject high doses of vitamin A, interesting
******Lack of physical activity and being overweight increases your risk of getting cancer?? myth or fact?? this is a fact, studies in men and women have shown that people who are not active are at a higher risk. Recommended 30 min per day, hm .... forgot to ask does that include running after little ones all day??
******* The best way to build up your immune system is to eat a healthy well balanced diet, myth or fact?? absolutely fact, fact is one should be eating a piece of meat the size of one's palm, and incorporating 7 fruits and veggies into one's diet per day, along with grain product, now what's wrong with that diet?? i really wish my natural path doc would have been there, i'm going to email her and ask her if she'd like to come to the Oakville one, then i'd absolutely definately would go!!
******** eating more fruits n' veggies may decrease cancer risk? fact or myth?? it is a fact, health experts recommend 5-10 servings a day, depending on age etc.
********* An acidic environment in the body encourages cancer cell growth?? fact or myth?? this also is a myth, there has been no research to suggest having an acidic body contributes to cancer starting or growth. Another interesting fact.
**********Consuming dairy products increase cancer risk?? myth or fact?? this too is a myth, dairy products provide essential nutrients such as protein, calcium & vitamin D to your diet, also another tidbit of info is vitamin D one mostly receives from the sun (20 min of sun/ day) now us folk in the winter months do not get our vitamin D we ought to and there aren't too many things that produce vitamin D, dairy products, mushrooms and hm.. mem just went blank, but for some reason almonds pop into my head but don't quote me on it, will need to check that one out. only three things help our bodies produce vitamin D, we tend to be vitamin D deficient here in Canada, dairy is also essential in bone growth and upkeep, so drink up 2 - 3 servings/ day

p.s. pic is of last years garden just popping up out of the ground, another month at least before i'll even try, garden's been tilled, but just gotta wait for no frost and a bit nicer temps.
